SA国际传媒 ISD continues a month of celebrating the graduating Class of 2023 with a profile of Anderson senior Pete Regalado, stand-out wrestler and future Marine Corps reservist.
To prepare for competition, this SA国际传媒 ISD senior visualizes himself facing his opponent, ready to engage in a sport that many people refer to as the 鈥渢oughest sport in the world鈥濃 wrestling.
But for Pete Esekiel Rodriguez Regalado IV, a senior at Anderson High SA国际传媒, wrestling means a positive change in his life. Pete went out for wrestling as a senior, when many of his teammates had been training and competing for years. Thanks to his determination, Pete has achieved great things in a short amount of time 鈥 both on the wrestling mat and in class.
鈥淎ll my hard work paid off when I got to wrestle my first year in regionals,鈥 he said. 鈥淢eeting the requirements that the school has imposed on me and even exceeding them truly reflects my values and priorities.鈥
Besides the physical workouts, Pete says he appreciates the discipline that鈥檚 demanded in wrestling, and how it has focused his academic performance and life goals.
When Pete graduates on Thursday, June 1, he will not only receive his high school diploma, but will also take the first step toward a career with the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

Pete says the diversity, determination, and discipline of the Marine Corps Reserve captured his attention because he wants to absorb the Marine culture of working with a purpose to achieve his goals.
鈥淎fter I鈥檓 done with all that I want to spend time with my family in my free time鈥ravel the US and travel the world,鈥 Pete says. 鈥淚 want my parents to see all the things they blessed me with and gave me this opportunity.鈥
Pete says he hopes to be a good example to his brothers and sisters, and make his parents proud of him, especially his mother.
鈥淢om represents the world, everything to me. As long as she is happy 鈥 I鈥檓 happy,鈥 Pete says. SA国际传媒 is his hometown, but is not his mother鈥檚, who grew up in Monterrey, Mexico. Pete calls learning about both cultures and being bilingual 鈥渢he best of two worlds 鈥 my family makes me want to do the best I can do.鈥
Pete says he feels very fortunate for the opportunities he has had thanks to his parents' efforts, and he encourages younger students to listen to their parents, 鈥渂ecause they want the best for you." Pete advises students coming up behind him to stay busy, stay involved in a sport or school activity, and ask lots of questions of their teachers.

Sin pensarlo, Pete se ve frente a frente con su oponente, listo para enfrentarse a uno de los deportes a los que mucha gente se refiere como el "deporte m谩s duro del mundo"-- la lucha grecorromana.
Pero para Pete Esekiel Rodr铆guez Regalado IV, estudiante de 煤ltimo a帽o del Anderson High SA国际传媒, la lucha libre significa un cambio positivo en su vida. Pete empez贸 a practicar la lucha grecorromana en su 煤ltimo a帽o, cuando muchos de sus compa帽eros llevaban a帽os entrenando y compitiendo. Gracias a su determinaci贸n, Pete ha logrado grandes cosas en poco tiempo, tanto en el deporte como en clase.
"Todo mi duro trabajo dio sus frutos cuando pude luchar mi primer a帽o en los regionales", dijo Pete. 鈥淐umplir los requisitos que me ha impuesto la escuela e incluso superarlos refleja verdaderamente mis valores y prioridades鈥.
Adem谩s del trabajo f铆sico, Pete se ha beneficiado de la disciplina que exige el deporte, demostr谩ndolo en sus notas acad茅micas y mejor谩ndolas.
Cuando Pete se grad煤e el jueves 1 de junio, no s贸lo recibir谩 su diploma de preparatoria, sino que tambi茅n dar谩 el primer paso hacia una carrera en la Reserva de la Marina de los Estados Unidos.
recibe la misma formaci贸n y trabajan en las mismas especialidades ocupacionales militares que los Marines en servicio activo. Adem谩s, sus requisitos de admisi贸n son muy similares.
Pete dice que la diversidad, la determinaci贸n y la disciplina de la Reserva de la Marina captaron su atenci贸n porque quiere absorber la cultura de la Marina la cual consiste en trabajar con un prop贸sito para lograr sus objetivos.
鈥淐uando acabe con todo eso, quiero pasar tiempo con mi familia en mi tiempo libre... viajar por Estados Unidos y recorrer el mundo... Quiero que mis padres vean todas las cosas con las que me bendijeron y me dieron esta oportunidad".
Pete dice que espera ser un buen ejemplo para sus hermanos y hermanas, y hacer que sus padres se sientan orgullosos de 茅l, especialmente su madre.
"Mam谩 representa el mundo, todo para m铆, mientras ella sea feliz ---yo soy feliz", dijo Pete. SA国际传媒 es su ciudad natal, pero no la de su madre, que creci贸 en Monterrey, M茅xico. Pete dice que aprender de ambas culturas y ser biling眉e es "lo mejor de dos mundos--- mi familia hace que quiere dar lo mejor de mi."
Pete dice sentirse muy afortunado por las oportunidades que ha tenido gracias al esfuerzo de sus padres, y anima a los estudiantes m谩s j贸venes a que escuchen a sus padres, "porque quieren lo mejor para ti." Pete aconseja a los estudiantes que apenas comienzan el camino de la preparatoria, a que se mantengan ocupados, participen en alg煤n deporte o actividad escolar y hagan muchas preguntas a sus profesores.
